Empower women with unity

Women have long been discriminated, oppressed and suppressed by society’s mindset– that women are this, are that, they should be like this– not that. We are believed to be inferior to men and are not capable of what men are capable of. We are believed to be what a woman should be in what the society has constructed for us to be like and to act like.

It infuriates me how women, up to this day, are not treated equally as men. It annoys me how I still hear remarks of doubt and discrimination against women in certain fields. It simply shows how we have a long way to go to break this misogynistic mindset that society has crafted throughout the years.

The pandemic has shown us how women are of importance and how their presence plays such a vital role in our lives and the society's. From frontliners, to mothers, sisters, daughters or any other woman in our life–or even any other woman we see, we see what they are capable of and what they have done and are contributing for society and for their families.

Women are beautiful. Women are talented. Women are smart. Women are independent. Women are compassionate. Women are empowered. Women are just as important and just as capable as men are in contributing to society. We women should be regarded with respect and treated with equality and not be discriminated against simply just because we are a “woman”.

Every woman is empowered, no matter what she is. Every woman deserved to be treated equally as men, no matter what field it is. Women should not only be empowered by women but also men. Gender equality should not only be a “women’s fight” but also that of men. Women should be hand-in-hand together with men in achieving gender equality and women empowerment. Women should not shut off their doors on men in empowering women and fighting for equality, they should welcome men, invite men. Fighting for equality should be fought by both genders. Let us not segregate our fight in equality in that of our prejudices against our respected genders. Let us unite and make gender equality “everyone’s fight” and empower women with unity.
