Battle of Bataan: The fall that began our Rise

Filipinos are known to be resilient  people. We, Pinoys have faced so much tragedy and yet here we are standing proud and tall and able to smile after or amid such grief. In Philippine's history, there is one thing Filipinos consistently fight for, and that is freedom against oppressors.

The battle of Bataan is one of the many wars Philippines has witnessed, the battle was fought by not only Filipino soldiers but as well as American soldiers. For four months the navy were able to resist the Imperial Japanese army, while every other island in the pacific and the southeast Asia fell. But due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the navy was decimated and was forced to surrender on April 9, the day Bataan fell and the march commonly known as "Bataan Death March" began, where 70,000 U.S. and Filipino prisoners were forced to march 101 kilometers to a prison camp.

Yearly, every April 9, now more commonly known as "Araw ng Kagitingan" , we commemorate the brave souls who has fought for the country and fought to survive. We may not have come out to be victorious after the battle of Bataan but the fall of Bataan has also began our rise when soldiers who refused to be prisoners ran and joined the Guerilla movement, a resistance movement against the Japanese during World War II.
