The famous Vigan City Festival held every January 25 is a festival every Bigueño and tourist eagerly awaits for. I mean, How could you not? Around this time, Vigan has so much to offer: street dancing, cultural shows, parades, exhibits, food fairs and carnivals. If you're a tourist, then this is the perfect time to feast yourself of the Vigan experience and bring out your inner Bigueño, on the other hand, if you're a Bigueño then this is also the perfect time to reconnect with our traditions and culture. Either way, Vigan City Festival is a time where Vigan City's beauty is even more prominent because of its explosions of culture and traditions.

Due to the pandemic and the increasingly  alarming rate of COVID-19 cases, all festivities have been put to a halt last year (2021). It is upsetting how even festivals have been cancelled, aside from businesses and schools due to the pandemic. Food fairs, street dance, parades, exhibits, carnivals and cultural shows all are impossible to enjoy under the pandemic due to the restraints and protocols implemented to prevent the spread of virus and the increase of cases. It is completely understandable why all festivities are put to a halt because it is a must to prioritize the citizens safety and health. I believe that festivity amid the pandemic is still possible, we can still celebrate even at our own homes, on our own ways. We have learned to be adaptable in celebrating events such as the new year, Christmas and other more celebrations, I am sure we can learn to adapt to this one as well.

Though we are all looking forward to all the festivities and to feel that festive spirit, it is important to prioritize everyones safety and health. The festivities can wait, what must be invested as of the moment is to rise from the pandemic and to find ways to efficiently adapt to it. Yes, it is a joy to indulge in the feeling of festivity and to engage on festivals, but before that let us engage in protecting and rising from the virus, and besides, isn’t it more festive to hold festivals when we are all safe and healed?
