Christmas: a gift amid the pandemic

There is something about Christmas that simply cheers us up. Maybe its the cold breeze that caresses our skin at night, maybe it's the colourful lights that adorn the streets left and right, or maybe it's the soft hum of a Christmas carol they play at stores. But for me, I think the reason why Christmas cheers us up despite the sorrows, pain and hardships we've all experienced due to the pandemic, is because Christmas symbolises hope, love and new beginnings. Something we all need during these trying times.

With all that's happening; all the sorrows, pain and hardships we've experienced amid the pandemic, Christmas Season is the time to breathe. We all had a hard time-- a tough time, we've struggled and had multiple breakdowns, so I think Christmas is a time for us to enjoy, to be in the presence of people who matters to us the most, to make up for the time we spent on working hard for others, to work on yourself. Christmas  is a time for us to rewind and reflect from our experiences, to have hope for a better year ahead and give hope to others by helping them, to show our love and to be loved. Christmas is a time for letting go of the pain and the anger, it is a time to forgive and reconnect.

To put it simply, Christmas is like a gift, wrapped with love, hope and new beginnings that contains time to breathe and enjoy. A time where we all can take it slow and let it all go. A time to find hope, to have hope, to be able to give hope. A time to heal from the wounds inflicted by the battles we’ve all been through. The essence of Christmas amid the pandemic is that it gives us everything that we need; hope, love forgiveness, time to rest, and time to reflect.
